Combat is a work in progress. This feature probably represents the most complex and detailed code I'll be developing.
Combat is turn based, and tactically complex. In general terms, when combat begins you will direct the actions of each player character independently. Though the player characters follow the party leader when exploring the dungeon, during combat you assume direct control. You will then be able to move each character, use items and abilities, and of course, attack.
Weapons, spells, and other skills deal different damage types and affect enemies differently. All of this complexity is what I am currently developing. I will make updates here over time.
To get a feel for how this works, I recommend viewing the combat videos in the dev journal on this site. I will be adding more there as I progress.
