What are guilds?
In describing Forge of Legends and other classic RPGs, an adventuring group is typically referred to as a "party." A guild, then, is a party and more.
A guild will consist of a group of player characters, most likely more than just the six that can make up an adventuring party. These player characters
might join the party if another member of the guild dies, retires, becomes lost, or perhaps just because the character may be a better fit for a certain
situation.
Why guilds?
I have more in mind for this feature than simply allowing a player to hoard more characters. In fact, it will be a central part of the game.
The guild will have a hall, which will be its base of operations, and it will compete against other guilds. A central premise of Forge of Legends
will be that the player must increase the reputation and power of his guild (becoming legendary) through quests and direct competition.
Other, computer-controlled guilds will be vying for some of the same rewards as the player, and will even be present in things like arena combats
or dungeon encounters. If the player can reach the top -- becoming the most famous and potent guild in the land -- he will be able to advance to
the final stages of the game. More on that as development progresses...
